About The Overhaul Brief

A weekly fire service technology briefing built by people who've been on the fireground.

Where this started

The Overhaul Brief was created by the crew behind the BURN documentary series. After spending years embedded with fire departments across the country, we saw the same thing everywhere: firefighters doing extraordinary work with outdated information about the tools and technology available to them.

Departments were making critical purchasing decisions based on trade show brochures. Training officers were finding out about new safety research months after it was published. Chiefs were hearing about AI, drones, and wearable tech from mainstream news instead of sources that understood their world.

We wanted to give back to the community that gave us so much. The Overhaul Brief is how we do that.

What we publish

Every Tuesday, we deliver a focused briefing on the technology, tools, and policy changes that affect how fire departments operate. Four minutes. No fluff. No vendor spin.

Each issue covers emerging tech, regulatory shifts, equipment worth watching, and our editorial take on what it actually means for your department — not just what happened, but what to do about it.

What makes this different

Why it's free

The fire service gave us access to their world, their stories, and their trust. The least we can do is make sure the people doing the work have access to the information that helps them do it better. The Overhaul Brief is free and always will be.
